| I went to eat with one of my students today, and this school is a little different than the school I grew up in. They post rules for everything (walking and hallway procedure, lunch line procedure, even bathroom procedures). While I was there I had to use the restroom and while I was washing my hands I noticed the restroom rules. The rules alone are not really worthy of note because they're pretty basic (take care of necessary business, wash hands, push paper towel dispenser only 3 times, etc.). However, at the bottom of each different set of rules is a quote by a famous person about doing your best. The Boys Bathroom Quote was from John Wooden and it said, "Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do." A profound statement indeed, but it seems to hit home a little more in the bathroom. P.S. I pushed the paper towel dispenser about 10 times. I know it's childish, but I don't care. |

| Prediction: If someone could invent a sure-fire way to keep those
little hairs from falling down the back of your neck when you get a
haircut they would be rich for the rest of their life.

| Here's a few random things I've learned from this past week
1. The term "Lock-in" takes on a whole new meaning when you're
the youth minister planning it instead of the student attending.
2. There are some parents I would like to sign my paycheck over
to every now and then just to say thanks for all the work they do and
all the effort they give to make sure their kids are around good
Christian influences.
3. Conversely, there are some parents that I would rather take my
paycheck and go buy a gun so I can shoot them because they seem to care
absolutely nothing about what their kids are doing or where their kids
are.
4. Watching students down jars of baby food like Sweet Pea or
Mixed Vegetables as part of a game is something I'll enjoy for a long
time.
5. Listening is something that people seem to have trouble
doing. (I have trouble with it too, but I'm thinking of others in
this particular instance)
6. There is NO replacement for good adult help in a youth ministry.
7. Spending time with the students is 10x more important than planning out a game.
That's all I've got for now. If there's more I'll add them on as they come to me.

| That's about the only way to describe it. An hour just getting to sit and praise God for what He's done. We got to see 5 people baptized in our church tonight, and I know some people think that's great because it means we get to add numbers to our church. I don't buy that at all. More people at church is great, but what good does that do if you're not changing lives?? It feels great to be on staff at a church where I can look at the people that are coming and see that God is working in their lives. I don't mean this to say that our church is the only one in Tulsa that is changing people because I hope that's not the case at all. But it is great to sit in a service and hear the Word of God proclaimed and then see people respond. If you're not plugged into a church where God's moving in people's lives, find one. If you can't find one, lemme know. We'll find a place for you here. |
